La Pierre Ronde
La Pierre Ronde, Les Bons Feuvres, Beaune, France Pinot Noir, 2022
Hailing from the southern edge of Burgundy, where the soils are dominated by clay, this wine emerges as a phoenix rising. Antoine, the brain behind the grapes and the wine, spent eight years making wine at the famous Leflaive estate in Burgundy. Antoine and La Pierre Ronde is what you might call an up and coming winery or “one to watch.” He operates as a micro negociant, meaning that he has access to limited vines and farms and then purchases some of his fruit. But he has created his actual winery, where the grapes are brought post harvest in a not so sexy party of Beane, where more industrial energy is his immediate neighbor and has created an immaculate wine making oasis. The wines have partial carbonic and are really juicy yet serious. They have a little age to help soften the tone but are still energetic and exciting. Can’t wait to see what the next five years will bring!
